Hi, I'm afraid of heights (not seriously but a bit queazy at times) yet I love skyscrapers, should I go up the shard for a tour I have been offered? Thanks :-)
I’m afraid I can’t answer this for you! But in my experience many people who experience acrophobia only become afraid when looking down from heights; those people would be just fine going up a skyscraper, but would want to avoid going right up to a window and looking down. My wife is in this category, and even she enjoyed a meal at the Space Needle last month. If you feel you might be in this category too, then I think you’ll probably enjoy the tour if you just focus on the view and don’t rush to look down.
My pastor rock-climbs, and even he gets scared occasionally. Then he says to himself, “Are you safe? Yes? Then it’s OK to feel scared.” There’s nothing wrong with feeling afraid, but if your brain knows that you’re safe (and skyscrapers are overwhelmingly safe), then it’s OK to push past the fear and do it anyway.
But it’s also not the end of the world if you just decide instead to just chill and have a coffee at the bottom!
