New and Old.
On the left is the Chicago Water Tower, a 47m stone tower built in 1869 to pump water from Lake Michigan. It was one of the few buildings in the area to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

This is a great photo of one of my favorites. To see the John Hancock in person is to appreciate the simple brilliance of its design; the gently sloping sides create a forced perspective, making it appear much taller than it is.
